MALMS RSS Overview

Fix individual light faults and update your photometric reports between MALMS Mobile runway surveys

MALMS Photometric surveys used with MALMS dashboard provide an immediate view of runway serviceability. However, often the surveys show deficiencies of individual lights which can mean that at the time of the survey a runway was not serviceable according to the relevant standard.

Maintenance personnel can rapidly correct these deficiencies by replacing lights, however due to pressures on runway access it is often not possible to go back and re-run the photometric survey.

However, with MALMS Rapid Serviceability providing the new light fittings have been recently tested as serviceable on a MALMS Photobench and the light replacements were recorded using MALMS Engineer then the Dashboard photometric report is corrected to show the light characteristic of the replaced lights. This means that the photometric report can now show the runway as serviceable without running the photometric survey a second time.

The below Dashboard reports show RSS results which have been substituted

Runway Serviceabilility figures include the substituted lamps. A yellow triangle is show at the bottom of the bar to indicate the services which contain substitutions. A warning is also shown at the bottom of the page including the number of lamps effected.

Course Bar Charts include substituted lamps. A yellow triangle is show at the bottom of the bar to indicate the lamps which are substituted. A warning is also shown at the bottom of the page including the number of lamps effected. Note that First-Last and Max-Min History bar charts don’t include substitutions as they only compare results from actual surveys.

On the map, the Photometric layer now has a new entry in the ‘extras’ drop down box, Shade RSS Substitutions. The shaded lamps have a yellow border around them.

When running a Photometric Performance report from the map you will see substituted values are marked with yellow triangles.

Note: Repair Maintenance Reports on the Dashboard are marked as substitutions in yellow and a star is placed in the end field. Beam Alignment Reports don’t include substituted values since only intensity issues should be fixed using the new scheme. It is not possible to prove alignment issues have been corrected after refitting the lamp.
